inspired by these woodland bark textures…
and here is a direct observational study i did of an oak tree (looking straight up).. interesting in that it was the only tree remaining with leaves in the woods, a glittering golden canopy contrasting with the mossy, dark green bark.. in conte pastel and watercolour..
then i switched to indian ink and graphite (because it was getting late and i was getting cold) to draw these tree branches… i liked the meandering gestural quality of lines rather than an absolute rendition of nature (and i used a found twig, naturally)…

my name is harriet and i am doing a textiles project at college about texture and surfaces and i really like your sketchbook work from ‘the woods’ I particularly like the 4th painting before you say ‘inspired by…’ ?? i was just wondering as ive chosen you as my artist to be influenced by if the painting had a title ? as i have to include info about the piecei choose.
