fifty and rising

I am still committed to completing the personal milestone of one hundred abstract paintings on paper. I have scanned and uploaded fifty so far to my art for sale page on Etsy (a laborious task as I adjust levels and curves on each one to achieve something close to the miniature painting in front of me).

One aspect of the scanning process has been to re-group paintings according to colours; the muted hues of late summer or autumn, the cool blue-green tones of the coast or the sea…

Jazz Green : Small works on paper : Contemporary British abstract art for sale, to buy, on Etsy.com

I was averse to using any emotive titles here, especially as they would be created in hindsight, a need to create a particular narrative, when really they are a journey into colour. This series of small works are simply titled I to C (Roman numerals), a play on I See, a sense of order in an intuitive painting process…

Giving work titles is often a tricky task for artists, balancing integrity, vision and purpose with keeping an open mind about how things look, a what you see is what you get, all responses are valid… my ideas are too diffused, embedded in an experiential process, frozen, cultivated, distilled, alchemical, serendipitous, although I relentlessly hold fast to an obsession with the smallest of details in the disintegrating environment, both signifiers and outcomes of the mortality of all things… of the past, present and future, from memory, feeling and experience… i hope the series as a whole conveys the message, each abstract unique but unavoidably related to the next in the sequence…. they do not come framed but I have depicted them here framed as sets of three… no framing keeps them more affordable…

edit: the remaining small abstracts on paper are now for sale here…
