some of these works arose from the damage caused to stored works... traces of mildew, fascinated by the processes decomposition... pieces were salvaged and deconstructed to make new work...working in fragments dictated the process... visual references from decayed elements such as lichen on a wall, unearthed flint, fossils or rust formations, influenced the construction of my own matter.. cut, torn or burnt out, then combined with other fragments or found materials... the titles of these works influenced by the finished piece, "float" mounted in handmade square box frames, reflecting the manner in which archaeological artefacts are catalogued and preserved (some are still available to buy)... collage or assemblage allowed the juxtaposition and arrangement of colour, form and texture... i am still obsessed with the visual relationships of constructed matter, equally fascinated by observing surface decay... however, my increasing control of the various processes and techniques of print/collage made me abandon this mode of work in favour of the grander scale possibilities in mixed media painting...
